Fish Curry

Fish [ Bachua , Rohu etc of your choice] – 1kg

Mustard oil – 4-6 tbsp

Mustard seeds – 2 tbsp

Garlic- 1 complete bulb made of thick pods

Ginger root – 1 inch

Onion – 2 medium siz

Tomato – 2 medium sized & finally chopped

Red Chilli Powder – as per your taste

Turmeric Powder – 1tbsp

Coriander Powder – 1tsp

Black Pepper Powder- 1tsp

Salt- 2 tbsp

Lemon [optional] – Half cut

Coriander Leaves- 4 tbsp chopped

Lukewarm Water – 4 cups

Marinate fish with half of the amount of salt & turmeric powder mentioned above and black pepper powder. You can also squeeze half lemon in this marinated fish for more flavour.Leave it for 1/2 an hour.

Grind Onion , Garlic, Ginger & Mustard Seeds together to a fine paste.

Shallow fry the fish pieces in a nonstick pan or you can use your normal tawa .Fish has lots of oil in it so you should use less oil in frying. And if you are frying in batches you don’t have to put oil the next time.I have used only 2 tsp oil for my first batch.Make sure your pan/tawa is properly heated or else the pieces will stick on it and break.

Turn the pieces upside down and cook on the other side.

Heat a wok. Add the remaining mustard oil in it and heat. Now add your ground paste in it and cook for 2-3 min on a medium flame. Then mix all your dry spices and the salt keeping in my mind that we have already added some salt to the  fish pieces.Add some water if you feel it is too dry. This way the spices will mix well.Add chopped tomatoes. Let everything cook together .

Once this spice paste starts leaving the sides of wok add lukewarm water to it.Bring it to boil and add fried fish pieces to it.cook for 2-3 min on a medium flame.

And it is good to serve after garnishing it with coriander leaves.
